Google Makes it Easier for Carders

Man, back in the day, the scammers had to phish for information, now they can just Google it! Makes you wonder what Google’s opinion is on this kind of criminal usage. They’re currently mum, as it’s the quiet period before the IPO and the billions for all its employees.

The lists of financial information include hundreds of card holders’ names, addresses and phone numbers as well as their credit-card data. Much of the credit-card data that appears in the lists found by Google may no longer be valid, but CNET called several people listed and verified that the credit cards numbers were authentic. The query, the latest example of “Google hacking,” highlights increasing concern that knowledgeable Web surfers can turn up sensitive information by mining the world’s best-known search engine.

Here’s a sample search from Google that would provide such information:

321 Studios Closes Its Doors

Hollywood bankrupts them, so one DVD copying software down, only a zillion more out there (heck, even ones that are free!) Have fun closing down the free software that’s not in the US, MPAA!

In a posting on its Web site, 321 Studios Inc. quietly announced “it has ceased business operations including, but not limited to, the sale, support and promotion of our products.”

The company said that despite its “best efforts to remain in business,” unfavorable court rulings by three federal courts this year assured its demise.

Norway Speeder Gets Off with Upset Stomach Story

Only in Norway would you get off… that or have Johnny Cochran as your lawyer.

OSLO, Norway – A reckless driver in Norway got a reduced sentence for speeding on Monday after he told a judge he had to go faster than the law allowed because his upset stomach was working faster than he could drive.

At one point, police clocked the driver doing 78 mph in a 31 mph zone, the newspaper Tronder-Avisa reported, citing police accounts.

Burn a DVD-R in 6 Mins Flat

If you’re really itching for that speed to pirate, backup that movie, you can now do it in 360 whole seconds! Not bad that it can burn at 16x with some 8x media, though.
—-
In our hands-on testing with Ahead Nero Burning ROM, however, the drive wrote a 4.35GB DVD movie structure in 6 minutes flat. Software and vagaries in preproduction discs are probably behind the speed difference. Alas, that 6 minutes represents only a 30-second boost over the speed of 12X drives.

Them Finns, don’t they know the most productive soldiers are the ones that play Counterstrike and Quake all day?

A number of Finnish conscripts have been excused their full term of military service because they are addicted to the Internet, the Finnish Defence Forces says.

Doctors have found the young men miss their computers too much to cope with their compulsory six months in the forces.

Chappelle Resigns with Comedy Central for 26 More

The funniest new show in years will be back for 2 more seasons! Woop! Though the rumor is Chappelle has been getting sick of doing his show, I’m sure he likes the money and fame he’s had lately. It’ll be interesting to see if he can keep up with the funny bits through 26 more eps.

LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) For once, keepin’ it real didn’t go wrong: Comedy Central has managed to hang on to Dave Chappelle, signing the comic for two more seasons of “Chappelle’s Show.”
Despite rumblings that the success of the series may have priced Chappelle out of the cable network’s range, Comedy Central worked out a deal with him to produce 26 more episodes of “Chappelle’s Show.” The new contract also includes a development deal for Chappelle.

Update: Guess there’s $50 MILLION reasons for the resigning. Benjamins sure are persuasive… Wow, 1.7 Million DVD sets too. Comedy Central prolly have already made $50M off of him, eh?—-
Sources familiar with the deal indicate it could be worth about $50 million, vaulting Chappelle into the rarefied realm of television’s top earners. The new contract is believed to not only mark a steep increase for Chappelle as star, writer, co-executive producer and co-creator of “Chappelle’s Show,” but more significantly, reward him with a hefty chunk of the series’ robust DVD sales.

More important, “Chappelle’s” has become a juggernaut on DVD, selling 1.7 million units to date of a collection of first-season episodes—the most successful television-related DVD of the year despite minimal marketing.

Maybe There’s Hope for 007

Bana rumor not true? Damn those flaky news sites that report on such gossip (err, not us of course, we just report what we read)... We’re not sure what to believe any more, but anyone is better than Bana!

In yesterday’s Buzz, we had an item saying that Eric Bana (Troy, The Hulk) is in negotiations to replace Pierce Brosnan as James Bond. Apparently, Coming Soon! has confirmed that the rumour is simply not true.

It is learned that Bana had not even been approached for the role of the British spy.

Porn Blogs Manipulate Google Rankings

Always the porn crew, ahead of the curve… But at least they make money, unlike Lycos. Hah! It’s funny that while Google promotes their Blogger service, it bites them back because it can be used to screw with their own search algorithms.
—-
When Google bought blogging software pioneer Blogger last year, it probably didn’t expect that its new technology would be used to goose the page rankings of porn sites.

But that’s exactly what’s happening, as an outfit called CyberQuest has recently set up a few dozen cross-linked, porn-themed Blogspot blogs (powered by Blogger), all of which link to three of its for-profit porn sites. According to a couple of experienced bloggers, the purpose behind the cross-linking strategy is to artificially raise the Google rankings of the three porn sites.
