Pocket PC Gets First Trojan

At least it won’t take over the world with a Pocket PC trojan. Still annoying that virus makers are targeting handheld devices now. Not as annoying as pop-up ads, though…
—-
A malicious Trojan horse program has emerged for Pocket PCs, antivirus companies said Thursday, but they characterized the threat as relatively low.

The program, known alternately as Backdoor.Bardor.A and WinCE.Brador.a, lets an attacker gain full control of the handheld and is the first such “backdoor Trojan” program to emerge for Pocket PCs. However, such backdoor programs are not capable of propagating on their own and instead must be sent as e-mail attachments or through similar means, making them less dangerous.

Fark’s Misleading Links?

It’s not a bad thing to sell out. Really, it isn’t. But c’mon, just say it’s advertising. It’s really not that hard, and I doubt it’d hurt their business at all to outright claim advertising for a link. At least that’s the ethical thing to do, just don’t tell it to people in the pr0n biz.
—-
According to a veteran new-media publisher, Fark has been selling preferential placement of story links without informing its readers.

Jason Calacanis, publisher of several rival Weblogs Inc. blogs, claims Fark offered him highly placed links to his sites in return for several hundred dollars.

“I was shocked because I had come to trust the brand, and the person behind it,” Calacanis said. “Anything that is an advertisement should be labeled as an advertisement. This is not rocket science.”

Seinfeld Season 1 to 3 on DVD November 23

Wow, $49.95 MSRP for an average of 13 episodes per season! Dang Jerry, don’t you make enough from the AmEx commercials? It’s priced rather high, but knowing Seinfeld fans, they’ll pay up the nose for ‘em. I know I will. sigh

The first three seasons of “Seinfeld” are coming to DVD Nov. 23, just in time for Festivus.

The episodes will be available in two four-DVD volumes as well as combined in a boxed gift set. Each volume will include about 12 hours of new content and have a suggested list price of $49.95, said the set’s Sony-owned distributor, Columbia TriStar Home Entertainment.

The gift set will have a list price of $199.95 and will include such quirky extras as a limited-edition script from co-creator Larry David, “Monk’s Diner” salt-and-pepper shakers and collectible playing cards.
