GoldenPalace Marketing Hits Olympic Closing Ceremonies

So some guy just got up on the stage while the Italian Olympic chairman was talking during the Closing Ceremonies. He was wearing a black GoldenPalace.com T-shirt, though the camera angle sort of obscured it. Great security over there in Turin, eh? Just how much does GP pay for such publicity? It’s gotta be worth a few million in advertising as all the European countries should be watching this live. Too bad no one told him the camera angle before he got up on stage. And will some idiot dare to do this in China and risk their life?

Thanks CBC for the live feed, I wonder how NBC will censor this bit, as I’m sure they wouldn’t be too pleased with free advertising for an online casino.

Update: Guess NBC didn’t censor it after all. The NBC camera’s view was even better and showed even more exposure for GoldenPalace. And in high definition, to boot! BTW, though as proud as I am to be called a Canadian, I’m in Seattle, yes, the land of rain… (and yes, it’s raining outside right now), we get the CBC feeds on cable here.

Pretty decent guide for people with a V-series Motorola phone. Definitely useful if you want to get rid of your cell phone carrier’s logos plastered all over a phone.

And You Thought Your Spam Was Bad…

Hahah, 4 million and only ‘most’ are spam? For the record, it’s billg@microsoft.com if you wanna spam Bill Gates there.
—-
SINGAPORE (AFP) – Internet junkies, take heart: Microsoft chairman Bill Gates (news – web sites) receives four million e-mails daily, most of them spam, and is probably the most “spammed” person in the world.

But unlike ordinary users, the software mogul has an entire department to filter unsolicited e-mails and only a few of them actually get through to his inbox, Microsoft chief executive Steve Ballmer said here Thursday.

Hidden Symbols in Logos

FedEx logo
Big Ten logo

Yes, I’m so easily amused. I see the FedEx logo probably everyday, but I’ve never seen the subliminal arrow until today, and of course a website pointed it out for me. Also above is the Big Ten logo, which added an 11th team a few years back, thus you can see a subliminal 11 in their logo.

Good interview with the FedEx logo creator guy at TheSneeze.
—-
Why choose to keep the arrow so subtle? It seems to show remarkable restraint. Weren’t you or the people at FedEx ever tempted to make it more obvious with an outline or a different color?

A good question and one that I am frequently asked. An arrow, in and of itself, is one of the most mundane graphic devices in visual communications. Truly, there is nothing unique or particularly strategic (marketing-wise) in using an arrow as a brand identifier. Early on, before the brand rollout in mid-1994, FedEx’s public relations agency was preparing to emphasize the arrow as a secondary graphic to underscore the “speed/precision? positioning. They proposed to leverage this in their FedEx communications. Landor put its foot down and said, “No way.?

My Office Depot Package

Office Depot Package
I get a package this afternoon at work from UPS, and I think, what could it be? I looked at the label and it said Office Depot. Great, I did order a hard drive last week, wait, why is it in such a small package? So I open it up, and lo and behold, it’s paper clips! And it’s crushed! I mean, the box is crushed, I think the paper clips are okay, and still usable, but I still thought about returning it or exchanging it, just for giggles. But, naw, that’d require me to take time out of my busy day.

Office Depot Package paper clips
So Office Depot pays UPS, what, at least $3 to ship this item from their warehouse to my work? Oh, did I mention the invoice was for 18 cents? I would think they would charge my credit card only once since I ordered the hard drive and paper clips together, but nope, it looks like it was individually charged. AmEx surely charges more than 18 cents per transaction fee? I don’t see it on my bill yet though, so I’m not sure exactly what went on. I only bought the paper clips to pad an order a little bit so I could use a $20 off $100 coupon. I don’t have some weird paper clip fetish that I know of.

I was just astounded by the absurdity of it all. They could have easily shipped the hard drive and paper clips together. But here they go out of their way to get me my paper clips early and yet they totally destroy my paper clips box and lose money on this transaction. I’m just baffled. My hard drive is still scheduled to be delievered in a few days, so we’ll see…

Man Cuts Off Penis, Dog Eats It

WTF? What kinda drugs was this dude on to not know the difference between a penis (his own, mind you) and a chicken’s neck? And he should be feeding his dog better, it might not have ATE it if it was full.
—-
A elderly Romanian man mistook his penis for a chicken’s neck, cut it off and his dog rushed up and ate it, the state Rompres news agency said Monday.

It said 67 year-old Constantin Mocanu, from a village near the southeastern town of Galati, rushed out into his yard in his underwear to kill a noisy chicken keeping him awake at night. “I confused it with the chicken’s neck,” Mocanu, who was admitted to the emergency hospital in Galati, was quoted as saying. “I cut it … and the dog rushed and ate it.”

Where’s Diddy’s iPod Pictures?

Such a tease! How can you put out a press release and not show pictures of the blingin’ iPod? We won’t mention if it’s sorta unmanly to have diamonds on your iPod, but that’s another story…
—-
Coinciding with the release of Hewlett Packard’s iPod digital music player, rap star P. Diddy plans to attend his post MTV Video Music Awards party with his personalized Apple iPod encrusted with 120 diamonds. HP is a major sponsor of the music awards, and all the guests at P. Diddy’s party, are to receive a gift of their own HP iPod, minus the diamonds.

The Scream Stolen!

Edvard Munch Painting The Scream Face
Wow, great security! In broad daylight, in front of tourists. What would Macauley Culkin do? Way to go, Norway!
—-
A hunt began yesterday for The Scream and another masterpiece by the Norwegian artist Edvard Munch after they were snatched in a daytime raid at a gallery in Oslo.

Tourists were forced to lie on the floor as two armed robbers pulled The Scream and The Madonna off the wall and ran to a waiting car. No shots were fired. The frames were later found dumped.
